ZINCTON, between KOOTENAY and SLOCAN lakes on the KASLO & SLOCAN RWY, owed its existence to the Lucky Jim Mine and boasted a population of 200 at its peak in the 1920s. The Zincton post office operated from 1915 to 1932 at the Bear Lake Hotel, an all-purpose establishment run by Scotty Mitchell. Another early MINING townsite in this area, Watson, was destroyed by fire in 1894 and never rebuilt.
