Aberdeen Point


Aberdeen Point (54˚13'00" 129˚53'00" N side of Skeena estuary, opposite Port Essington). Named by the hydrographic service in 1950 after the Aberdeen Cannery, established by Robert Draney for the Windsor Canning Co in 1878 at the mouth of Aberdeen Ck. William Dempster was manager. Aberdeen was the second salmon cannery built on the N coast and, with its post and telegraph office and store, also served as a trading centre for miners heading up the Skeena R.
