Adam River


Adam River (50˚28'00" 126˚17'00" Flows N into Johnstone Str, NW of Sayward, Vancouver I). An early name, appearing on Admiralty charts from 1867. The mouth of the river, where a breakwater has been constructed, has long been the site of a logging camp and booming ground. According to historians Philip and Helen Akrigg, the First Nation name for the river is He-la-de, meaning “land of plenty” in Kwakwala and referring to the abundance of berries, birds, animals and salmon in the area.
