Amyes Island (50˚36'00" 126˚16'00" In Chatham Channel, E of Minstrel I at entrance to Knight Inlet). Electrical Artificer Alfred William Amyes, of Victoria, was killed in action at age 28 while serving aboard the RCN destroyer HMCS Margaree, which was on merchant marine convoy duty in the N Atlantic on Oct 22, 1940, when it collided with a freighter and sank with the loss of 142 lives. His name is inscribed on the Halifax Memorial.
