Anvil Island (49 ̊32'00" 123 ̊18'00" NE of Gambier I in Howe Sd, NW of Vancouver). Named for its shape by Capt George Vancouver in 1792. He was able to observe a latitude in this vicinity and later noted that “Passage and Anvil islands in one” provided an ideal line for staying safely W of the mud flats at the mouth of the Fraser R.
