Anyox Rock


Anyox Rock (55 ̊24'00" 129 ̊47'00" SE of Granby Point, Observatory Inlet). The town of Anyox on Granby Bay was the site of a smelter and one of the largest and most productive copper mines in N America, established in 1912 by the Granby Consolidated Mining, Smelting and Power Co. Abandoned in 1942 after a major fire, Anyox had a population of 2,700 at its peak. The name is a derivation of a Tsimshian First Nation name for Granby Bay and may mean “place of hiding.” E
