Argonaut Point


Argonaut Point (49 ̊43'00" 126 ̊29'00" SW entrance to Hisnit Inlet, NW side of Tlupana Inlet, Nootka Sd, W side of Vancouver I). The Argonaut, a British trading vessel under the command of James Colnett (see Colnett Point), arrived at Nootka Sd in the spring of 1789. After quarrelling with Estéban José Martínez, the Spanish commander established in the area, Colnett was arrested and sent to Mexico, and his ships were impounded—acts that helped bring Spain and England to the brink of war....
