Bajo Point


Bajo Point (49˚37'00" 126˚49'00" W side of Nootka I, W side of Vancouver I), Bajo Reef (49˚34'00" 126˚49'00" S of Bajo Point). Bajo, which means “under” or “beneath” in Spanish, can also be translated as “shoal” or “sandbank.” The dangerous reef here, where the British vessel King David was wrecked in Dec 1905, with the loss of seven lives, was noted by Capt James Cook in 1778 and first named by Alejandro Malaspina in 1791.
