Balaklava Island (50˚50'57" 127˚37'32" E of Nigei I, Goletas Channel, Queen Charlotte Str). Named by Lt Daniel Pender in Oct 1863, on the ninth anniversary of the famous Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaklava in the Crimea. The cavalry charge, led by Lord Cardigan against a much stronger, artillery-supported Russian force, resulted in heavy British losses.
