Bamfield Islands (54˚04'00" 130˚18'00" Off NE coast of McMicking I, S of Prince Rupert). Samuel Bamfield was assistant surgeon aboard HMS Malacca, based at Esquimalt, 1865–68, under Capt Radulphus Oldfield. He was promoted to fleet surgeon in 1882 and went on to achieve the rank of deputy inspector-gen, hospitals and fleets (retired), in 1892, the year he died. Named by surveyor Lt Daniel Pender of the Beaver in 1867.
