Barnes Shoal


Barnes Shoal (53˚42'00" 132˚58'00" At entrance to Port Louis, NW Graham I, QCI). Master mariner Charles Barnes (1860–1926), from England, worked on the BC coast for Canada’s Dept of Marine and Fisheries and served on a series of lighthouse tenders. He married Rose Pfeiffer (1865–1935), a native of Germany, at Victoria in 1892. Barnes was 2nd officer on CGS Quadra and then capt of CGS Newington, acquired in 1908.
