Beacon Hill


Beacon Hill (48˚24'38" 123˚21'54" S side of Victoria, SE end of Vancouver I). Named in the 1840s by HBC officials after two beacons were installed—one on the hill and one on the shoreline—so that, when they were aligned, mariners could avoid running aground on dangerous offshore Brotchie Ledge when entering Victoria Hbr.
