Black Creek (49˚50'00" 125˚08'00" Between Courtenay and Campbell R, E side of Vancouver I). The actual creek that gives this community its name appears on Admiralty charts as Black Ck as early as 1865. The source of the name is not known. The village of Black Ck got its start in the 1930s after a group of Mennonites settled there to farm. A post office opened in 1936, and the community gradually became a service centre for the region; its population in the early 21st century was about 2,000....
