Bonwick Island


Bonwick Island (50˚42'00" 126˚39'00" W of Gilford I, E end of Queen Charlotte Str), Bonwick Point (53˚51'00" 130˚04'00" NE side of Pitt I). Charles Bonwick, born about 1830 in Surrey, England, was assistant engineer on the RN gunboat Grappler in 1860, then became chief engineer, under Lt Daniel Pender (who applied these names), aboard the historic paddle steamship Beaver, which was hired by the RN for survey duties on the BC coast, 1863–70.
