Caldwell Island


Caldwell Island (49˚45'00" 124˚03'00" NW side of Agamemnon Channel, mouth of Jervis Inlet, N of Pender Hbr). Capt Benjamin Caldwell (1739–1820) was the first cdr of the 64-gun ship of the line Agamemnon, launched in 1781. He was promoted to capt in 1765 and spent much of his career on the N American and W Indies stations, becoming a rear adm in 1793. Caldwell was also an MP, 1776–90.
