Call Bight


Call Bight (50˚06'05" 124˚42'00" E side of Desolation Sd, N of Gifford Peninsula, N end of Str of Georgia). Petty Officer George E Call, who joined the RCN at Esquimalt in 1927, was a stoker aboard the destroyer Fraser, which collided with the British cruiser Calcutta and sank while participating in an evacuation of French refugees in June 1940. Call died on July 4, 1940, aged 33, one of 64 men to lose their lives in this tragic accident, and is buried at Plymouth Cemetery, Devon, UK....
