Cameleon Harbour


Cameleon Harbour (50˚20'30" 125˚18'20" SW side of Sonora I, N of Campbell R). The 17-gun HMS Cameleon, a 1,238-tonne, 57-m wooden steam corvette, was launched in 1860. It spent four periods on the Pacific Station, largely based at Esquimalt: 1861–63, under Cdr Edward Hardinge; 1863–66, under Cdr Theodore Jones; 1867–70, under Cdr William Annesley; and 1870–74, under Cdr Josiah Hatchard, Cdr Karl Mainwaring and Cdr Andrew Kennedy.
