Campbell Cove


Campbell Cove (48˚20'00" 123˚38'00" W side of Becher Bay, S end of Vancouver I). This feature, originally known by local residents as Browns Cove and Frenchmans Cove, may have been named after Hugh Campbell, who pre-empted land in the Muir Ck area at Shirley, W of Sooke, and was one of the earliest settlers in the district. He is probably the same Hugh Campbell who died at Sooke Lk in 1927, aged 89; in 1915 he donated land, now a park, for a school. Then again, the name may predate this era,...
