Cape Keppel (48˚43'00" 123˚29'00" S end of Saltspring I, Gulf Is). Sir Henry Keppel, GCB (1809–1904), was known as the “father of the British navy” and attained the rank of adm of the fleet in 1877. He was active in the Crimean War, leading the assault on Sevastopol and its capture, and also spent much time off Asia and Africa, serving as cdr-in-chief of the RN’s Cape Station, 1860–61, and China Station, 1867–69.
