Cape Swaine


Cape Swaine (52˚14'00" 128˚26'00" NW tip of Athlone I, W of Bella Bella), Swaine Point (50˚31'00" 126˚34'00" S side of W Cracroft I, Johnstone Str), Swaine Point (54˚45'00" 130˚26'00" E side of Wales I, NW entrance to Portland Inlet). Capt George Vancouver named the cape in 1793 after Spelman Swaine (1769–1848), HMS Discovery’s 3rd lt. Swaine, who had influential friends (see Hardwicke I), started the voyage as a master’s mate but was twice promoted for his competent survey work....
