Captain Island


Captain Island (49˚47'00" 123˚59'00" NE of Nelson I in Jervis Inlet, NW of Vancouver). The 74-gun Captain, built in 1787, was the ship in which Commodore Horatio Nelson, at the 1797 Battle of Cape St Vincent, disregarded the orders of his cdr, Sir John Jervis, and altered course to prevent the Spanish fleet from escaping, thus winning the day for Britain (and setting in motion his legendary career).
