Carlsen Islet


Carlsen Islet (49˚43'17" 124˚10'30" In Blind Bay, S entrance to Jervis Inlet, N of Malaspina Str). Stoker 1st-class Harvey Morris Carlsen, from Vancouver, was killed in action Apr 16, 1945, aged 19, while serving with the RCNVR aboard HMCS Esquimalt. The minesweeper (and last Canadian vessel lost in WWII) was torpedoed by a German U-boat and sunk off Halifax, with a loss of 44 lives. Carlsen is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby. The feature was named quite recently, in 1990....
