Carlson Inlet


Carlson Inlet (52˚34'00" 127˚14'00" SW of Skowquiltz Bay, W side of Dean Channel, NE of Ocean Falls). The hydrographic service named this feature about 1958 after “C Carlson, early settler in the Bella Coola area,” without providing any further details. The reference, however, is probably to Christian Carlson (1854–1917), whose name was often spelled “Carlsen.” In 1897 he became president of the group of Norwegian immigrants who colonized the Bella Coola valley in 1894.
