Carlson Islets


Carlson Islets (55˚27'00" 129˚46'00" Hastings Arm, Observatory Inlet, S of Stewart). Ernest Carlson (1881–1918) first staked the Dolly Varden claims near the head of Alice Arm in 1910, along with three other Scandinavian prospectors: Ole Evindsen, Ole Pearson and Karl Ludwig Eik. In 1915 the quartet sold their find to Chicago investors, who went on to develop a narrow-gauge mining railway and a rich but ultimately unsuccessful silver mine in 1919–21. The discoverers got $10,000 each....
