Carmanah Point


Carmanah Point (48˚37'00" 124˚45'00" Between Nitinat Lk and Port San Juan, SW side of Vancouver I). Carmanah is an adaptation of the name of a Ditidaht (Nuu-chah-nulth) village that used to be located on the E side of the promontory. It can be translated as “canoe landing in front.” The headland was named Punta Bonilla by Spanish naval officer Manuel Quimper in 1790, but subsequent British charts misapplied Bonilla to the next point to the E.
