Carmichael Passage


Carmichael Passage (52˚59'00" 131˚55'00" Between Louise I and NE side of Moresby I, QCI). Provincial assayer Herbert Carmichael, travelling by canoe with hired Haida paddlers, examined Cumshewa Inlet and the surrounding area for the BC Ministry of Mines in 1901. He had been sent to investigate the “bituminous matter” that oozed between rocks on the Tar Is and elsewhere but was unable to determine its commercial value.
