Chaatl Island


Chaatl Island (53˚07'00" 132˚28'00" W end of Skidegate Channel, between Graham I and Moresby I, QCI), Chaatl Narrows (53˚06'00" 132˚24'00" SE side of Chaatl I). Chaatl (Ts’aa’ahl), on the island’s S shore, was a major Haida First Nation village in ancient times. In the 1830s, John Work, HBC trader at Port Simpson, estimated that over 550 people lived there, in 35 houses, but most had moved to Skidegate Inlet by 1870. D
