Chalmers Anchorage


Chalmers Anchorage (54˚03'00" 130˚16'00" N side of Elliott I, Malacca Passage, S of Prince Rupert). Francis Chalmers (not Chalmer, as the name is spelled in Walbran’s Coast Names) was on the BC coast in the mid-1860s as a midshipman aboard HMS Malacca. A good draftsman, he was placed temporarily (1866–67) on the Beaver, which the RN hired from the HBC as a survey vessel for a number of years. He retired from the navy in 1872 with the rank of lt. Nearby Francis Point is also named for him....
