Chancellor Channel


Chancellor Channel (50˚25'00" 125˚42'00" N of W Thurlow I, Johnstone Str). Named by Capt George Richards in 1860 because of its adjacency to the Thurlow Is and Loughborough Inlet, both named by Capt George Vancouver in 1792 after lord chancellors of England. This was the Ensenada de Viana of Spanish explorer Dionisio Alcalá-Galiano, named for Francisco Xavier Viana, one of Alejandro Malaspina’s officers in the Descubierta.
