Chassepot Rock

Chassepot Rock (54˚14'00" 130˚24'00" Off S end of Digby I, just W of Prince Rupert). A chassepot, invented about 1866 by Antoine Alphonse Chassepot, was a breech-loading rifle that fired a paper cartridge. It became the standard service weapon for the French army until 1874 and greatly outperformed German army rifles in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–71. The rock was given this name prior to 1916, though it is not known why.
