Chatfield Island


Chatfield Island (52˚16'00" 128˚04'30" Between Cunningham I and Yeo I, N of Bella Bella). RN officer Alfred John Chatfield, CB (1831–1910), served on the BC coast, 1875–78. He was capt of HMS Amethyst when that vessel hosted the Earl of Dufferin, gov gen of Canada, and the Countess of Dufferin on their summer tour of BC’s N coast in 1876, during which the vice-regal couple bestowed names on many geographic features.
