Chic Chic Bay


Chic Chic Bay (51˚28'00" 128˚01'00" SW side of Calvert I, S of Bella Bella). Chikchik was the word for a wheel or any wheeled vehicle in Chinook jargon, the pidgin language used on the W coast by First Nation groups and early traders and settlers. It is not known how the name relates to the bay (or to Chic Chic Lk, also on SW Calvert I). Franz Arthur Heinrich had built a cabin near the lake by 1913 and cleared land for a garden and chicken run. Chic Chic Bay was formerly known as Rocky Bay....
