China Beach

China Beach (48˚25'00" 124˚05'00" SE of Port Renfrew, SW side of Vancouver I). This well-established local name, adopted in 1976, recalls the former name of Uglow Ck, which enters the ocean here and was known to pioneer loggers as China Ck. (Uglow Ck, in turn, is named after W Lawrence Uglow, a UBC geologist who did work in the area about 1920 in association with the adjacent Uglow mining claim.)
