Clapp Passage

Clapp Passage (50˚39'00" 126˚15'00" Between SE Gilford I and Shewell I, entrance to Knight Inlet). Possibly named after Navigating Lt Edward Scobell Clapp, who was based at Esquimalt in 1871–73 aboard HMS Scout, under Capt Ralph Cator. He later served in Bermuda and was inspector of lighthouses for the Bahamas in 1889. Clapp retired from the RN in 1890 with the rank of staff cdr and died in 1902. This name, however, may predate Clapp’s presence on the BC coast.
