Clarke Island

Clarke Island (48˚53'00" 125˚23'00" W side of Broken Group, Barkley Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Named in 1933 for William R Clarke, who obtained a Crown grant for land on Uchucklesit Inlet in 1893. The island, which appears on early Admiralty charts as Quoin I, was pre-empted in 1911 by Harry Schwarzer of Ucluelet, who received a Crown grant for it in 1914.
