Clute Point


Clute Point (52˚10'05" 127˚57'35" N side of Gunboat Passage, E of Bella Bella). John Stilwell Clute (1840–1929) was born at Kingston, Ont, came to Victoria in 1862 and joined the Cariboo gold rush. He operated a clothing store with C C Major in New Westminster, 1863–70, married Jennie Clarkson (1847–1925) at New Westminster in 1866, was mayor of that city in 1867 and also served as a councillor.
