Cluxewe River


Cluxewe River (50˚37'00" 127˚10'00" Flows NW into Broughton Str, just W of Port McNeill). This Kwakwala name, which also appears in historic documents as Kliksiwi, Klucksiwi and Lex’si’we, has two meanings: “place of the changing river mouth” and “place of refuge.” The Cluxewe Resort, owned by Ft Rupert’s Kwakiutl First Nation band, is today located at the mouth of the river on the Klickseewy reserve, once an ancient village site.
