Coal Harbour


Coal Harbour (49˚17'30" 123˚07'20" W end of Vancouver Hbr). Seams of coal were discovered here in 1859 by Francis Brockton, chief engineer of HMS Plumper, during a survey of Burrard Inlet by Capt George Richards. In fact, on his 1860 chart of the region, Richards gave the name Coal Peninsula to the entire body of land occupied today by Stanley Park and downtown Vancouver.
