Cockatrice Bay


Cockatrice Bay (50˚48'00" 126˚50'00" SW side of Broughton I, NE end of Queen Charlotte Str). HMS Cockatrice was a 6-gun brigantine of 165 tonnes, designed by famous naval architect Sir Richard Seppings and built at Pembroke in 1832. The gunboat was stationed in S America in the 1830s and ’40s and served as a tender to the flagships of the Pacific Station, 1848–57, before being decommissioned in 1858. It operated in BC waters in 1851–52 under master William Dillon.
