Coffin Island


Coffin Island (Just E of Coffin Point), Coffin Point (48˚59'00" 123˚45'00" W side of Stuart Channel at N entrance to Ladysmith Hbr, SE side of Vancouver I). Coffin Point was the site of a Chemainus First Nation village known as Kumalockasun. The area somehow was not included with the main Chemainus reserve, just to the NW, when the reserves were laid out in 1913. Coffin I is an old name, appearing on an Admiralty chart published in 1863.
