Colvile Island


Colvile Island (48˚26'00" 123˚23'00" W side of Victoria Hbr, NE of Work Point). British merchant Andrew Wedderburn Colvile (1779–1856) owned sugar plantations in Jamaica and was a shrewd and practical businessman. He first acquired stock in the HBC in 1809 after his brother-in-law Thomas Douglas, 5th Earl of Selkirk and founder of the Red River Colony, became a shareholder.
