Commerell Point


Commerell Point (50˚34'00" 128˚15'00" S entrance to Raft Cove, S of San Josef Bay, NW end of Vancouver I). Adm Sir John Edmund Commerell, GCB, VC (1829–1901), had an esteemed career in the RN. He won his VC during the Crimean War for a daring commando attack on a Russian supply depot. Over the years he served in S America, China and W Africa and was cdr-in-chief at Portsmouth in 1888–91. He was a lord of the Admiralty, 1879–80, an MP, 1885–88, and a great favourite of Queen Victoria....
