Copper Island


Copper Island (49˚45'25" 124˚09'30" W of Nelson I, entrance to Jervis Inlet). Two possible explanations for this name have been advanced: a narrow vein of copper supposedly runs across Nelson I; and in the 1940s local residents would careen their boats there and copperpaint them. The name was adopted in 1991 for use on large-scale hydrographic charts.
