Cottam Point


Cottam Point (49˚19'00" 124˚13'00" NE entrance to Northwest Bay, just E of Parksville, E side of Vancouver I), Cottam Reef (49˚19'00" 124˚11'00" S side of Ballenas Channel, off Dorcas Point, E of Parksville). Lt George Frederick Cottam was an officer aboard HMS Ganges, the flagship of Rear Adm Robert Baynes. He served on the Pacific Station in 1857–60 and retired from the RN about 1870 with the rank of capt. Cottam Point was formerly known as Tongue Point.
