Craft Island


Craft Island (52˚35'00" 129˚08'00" In Clifford Bay, W side of Aristazabal I). Sapper Philip Craft (1828–74) was a member of the Columbia detachment of the Royal Engineers, which served in BC 1858–63. The correct spelling of his name seems to have been Crart. He came to BC in 1859 aboard Thames City with his wife, Elizabeth Herring, and family (which included two stepchildren) and served as orderly to Lt Arthur Lempriere.
