Crane Point


Crane Point (48˚50'32" 123˚19'54" W side of Mayne I, Gulf Is). Engine Room Artificer Alan Creighton Crane, from S Pender I, was killed in action Oct 22, 1940, aged 24, while serving with the RCN aboard HMCS Margaree, under Lt Cdr Joseph Roy. The destroyer sank on convoy duty in the N Atlantic after colliding in rough weather with the Port Fairy, a merchant freighter; 142 crew members were lost. Crane’s name is inscribed on the Halifax Memorial.
