Cunningham Island


Cunningham Island (52˚14'00" 127˚59'00" Just N of Denny I, N of Bella Bella). Thomas Cunningham (1837–1916), a native of Ireland, came to Canada in 1853 and arrived at Victoria about six years later to join the gold rush. In 1861 he settled at New Westminster and opened a hardware store, then expanded his business to Nanaimo, buying the Vancouver Coal Co’s general store there in 1864 and operating under the name Cunningham Bros with his brother James (1835–1925).
