Curme Islands


Curme Islands (50˚07'00" 124˚45'00" Between Otter I and Mink I, Desolation Sd, NE end of Str of Georgia). Capt Charles Thomas Curme (1827–92) was based at Esquimalt in 1872–73 as cdr of the RN battleship Repulse, flagship of Rear Adm Charles Hillyar. Nearby Mink I (qv) was renamed Repulse I in 1945 in association with the Curme Is, but in 1962, after a campaign against the change by the island’s owner, the original name was restored.
