Descubierta Point (49˚41'00" 126˚30'00" SE entrance to Tlupana Inlet, Nootka Sd, W side of Vancouver I). The three-masted corvette Descubierta (Spanish for “discovery”) was especially built as the flagship of Capt Alejandro Malaspina’s 1789–94 circumnavigation of the world. It was equipped (as was its sister vessel, Atrevida) with facilities for artists, naturalists, astronomers and surveyors; a library; and the latest navigational and hydrographic instruments.
