Dewdney Island (52˚59'00" 129˚37'00" Southernmost of the Estevan Group, between Bank I and Aristazabal I). Engineer and politician Edgar Dewdney (1835–1916) was lt gov of BC, 1892–97. Born in England, he came to BC in 1859 and helped lay out the townsite of New Westminster. In 1860 he was awarded a contract to build a pack trail across southern BC from Hope.
